Glasgow Rangers youngster Liam Burt reminded everyone of his quality with a brace as the Ibrox side won 6-1.
When Liam Burt made his debut as a 17-year-old in 2016, it appeared that Rangers may have uncovered a future star who could prove to become a stalwart of the club’s midfield for years to come.
Now 19, Burt still clearly has the potential to make the grade at Ibrox. But he may well have expected to have more than three first-team appearances under his belt for the Gers by this stage.
And with the teenager currently struggling to break into the ranks on loan at Alloa, he would have been forgiven for being slightly concerned about his situation.
Burt’s last start for the Championship side came in October, while he has only made one substitute appearance since then.
So perhaps it would be fair to say that his latest display for the Gers’ under-20s will have provided a timely boost to the youngster’s confidence as Graeme Murty’s side stormed to a stunning victory.
Burt scored twice as Rangers ran out 6-1 winners against Partick Thistle. He came off the bench and showed plenty of quality as his excellent runs into the box and positioning saw him rewarded with a brace.

Steven Gerrard has made it clear with his team selections that those impressing him will get a first-team chance regardless of their age or experience. So while Burt may not be enjoying the best loan spell, he can undoubtedly take some belief from his latest performance for his parent club.
And perhaps it may only take a few more impressive displays for the Gers for Burt to move himself right onto Gerrard’s radar.
