Rangers youngster Liam Burt is still aiming to break into the first team.

The 20-year-old made his debut for Rangers nearly three years ago but has found it tough to progress since.

Injuries, loan spells and changes in management have all contributed to Burt remaining as an academy player.

He featured for Rangers’ under-20s at the weekend in a 5-1 win over Queens Park.

Burt told Rangers’ official website: “I got 90 minutes last week and 90 minutes again, so I’m just building it up to getting fitter and getting more game time and hopefully kick on.

“Getting into the first team is definitely something I’m looking to, it’s why everybody else is here to get round to the first team and hopefully impress and show what you can do in the first team.”

The young attacking midfielder is a bright talent who Rangers are refusing to give up on and he himself is as determined as ever to succeed.

Even so, manager Steven Gerrard has shown he is happy to promote young players if they stand out, with Jordan Houston the latest to step up.

This gives Burt hope that he could still make the breakthrough.
