Leeds United were beaten 3-2 against Barnsley at the weekend so missed the chance to return to third in the Championship table.

Liam Bridcutt has suggested that the one positive to come out of Leeds United’s game against Barnsley at the weekend is the fact that they have little time to dwell on the result as their clash with Nottingham Forest swiftly approaches, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

Leeds suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of their Yorkshire rivals at the weekend – their first loss since Brighton beat them in December – as Paul Heckingbottom’s men ran out 3-2 winners.

Though the Whites looked bright in patches, Garry Monk’s side were second best for much of the contest. And while Mike Dean’s performance cost both sides on occasions, Leeds were extremely fortunate to get the second-half penalty that allowed Chris Wood to halve the deficit as the incident that led to the spot-kick took place outside the box.

Bridcutt appeared to be under no illusions about the level of their performance as he suggested that the one thing that Leeds could be happy about following the defeat at Oakwell is the fact that they have a chance to put things right almost immediately.

“The only positive we can take from this is that we have a game on Wednesday and we look forward to that,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“We’ve proven from the start of the season that we’re a team who are growing in character and quality. As the manager said to us, we pick ourselves up and we go again. We are not going to dwell on this.”

Though Leeds’ unbeaten run was seven games in all competitions before the weekend, the defeat against Barnsley will perhaps hurt more due to how long it has been since they lost to a team that the fans would have genuinely expected the side to beat.

The Peacocks’ only defeats since mid-October have come against the division’s current top two and Liverpool in the EFL Cup, so supporters would have been forgiven for beginning to get slightly carried away about what the team could achieve.

But Bridcutt and his teammates will be hoping that they can put in a performance against Forest on Wednesday that allows the supporters to start getting carried away once again.
