Whites midfielder Liam Bridcutt spoke to BBC Radio Leeds in the wake of his side’s impressive 3-1 win at Birmingham City on Friday night, and explained why they are at a slight disadvantage to every other club in and around them in the Championship table.

Leeds currently sit in fourth spot, just seven points adrift of Brighton & Hove Albion in seventh position, and with 11 games still to be played, they will genuinely believe that they can force their way into the automatic promotion places.

But Bridcutt explained why he feels they have their work cut-out, when speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, highlighting how every team in the division raise their game when they play Leeds:

“A lot of teams are now showing us a lot of respect. They are trying to make it difficult for us. Everyone wants to beat Leeds United because they know the history of the club. It makes it even harder when you are near the top because other teams have even more determination to try and beat us.”

There is no question that the West Yorkshire outfit are thought of as one of the biggest scalps in the division, and that in itself makes the fantastic job that Garry Monk has done during his time in charge at Elland Road all the more impressive.

And with games against Fulham, Brighton and Reading all to come in their next four outings, they have a fantastic opportunity to lay down a marker, and make a statement to the rest of the league that they are genuine contenders for a place inside the top two.
