Sunderland defender Liam Bridcutt says the club have been trying different things in training.
Sunderland defender Liam Bridcutt has told the Chronicle what the team have been working on in the build up to the match against Burnley.
Sunderland will be hoping to put in a more effective performance than they could manage in the FA Cup last weekend against Fulham after a 0-0 draw and Bridcutt has confirmed they’ve been trying new things.
“We’ve been going over a few things in training this week – formation and changes of position,” said the defender.
“But that’s part and parcel of football these days. If you look at most teams now, they change formation three or four times throughout the season.”
Changing formations is a good tactic for the club because it makes them unpredictable for their opposition in the build up to big games.
However, it’s also a risk because it makes it more difficult for the players to get used to a specific style which is connected t a particular formation.
The best approach for the Black Cats this weekend could be to go back to basics but it’s encouraging Gus Poyet seems to be trying to do something different and find a formula, which fires the club up the Premier League table.
The challenge for the players is implementing the things they have been working on in training effectively, doing it consistently and showing the intelligence to change if a certain style isn’t working.
