Leeds United defensive midfielder Liam Bridcutt has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that the club made a statement of intent by appointing Garry Monk as the head coach in the summer of 2016.

Monk was appointed the Leeds head coach in the summer of 2016 following the departure of Steve Evans at the end of the 2015-16 season.

The former Swansea City manager has done a wonderful job at Elland Road so far this campaign, with the Whites set to end up in the top six of the Championship.

Bridcutt, who is 27 years of age and signed a permanent contract with the Whites in the summer of 2016 after a loan spell at Leeds, has praised Monk.

“When I first came in here there was a lot of issues going on,” Bridcutt told The Yorkshire Evening Post. “Obviously, there was the transition of managers and things like that but I knew in the summer when Garry came in, I knew that the club was on the up.

“They made that statement by signing such a good manager and I think he has made the statement by signing the players that he has and looking in the right direction. For me, Garry can only get better.

“I think from what he has done for this club has been amazing and he’s still two or three years into his managerial career and he’s achieved what he has. I think he is going to go on to have a brilliant career as a manager.”

Monk is one of the brightest and most talented young managers in England, and Leeds can only progress under him.

The Englishman has the respect of his players at Elland Road, and there is harmony in the dressing room.

Leeds will return to action on Saturday evening when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion at Elland Road in the Championship.
