The Leeds captain is getting back to full fitness.

Leeds United captain Liam Bridcutt has been commenting on his upcoming return to first-team action after injury.

The Scotland international has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury in the game against Blackburn Rovers in mid-September.

He wrote in the Leeds United matchday programme ahead of the tie with Aston Villa in the Championship yesterday, a game Leeds won 2-0, that he was on course for his return to action but that he was fully aware he faces a battle to get in the first-team straight away:

“I’m really pleased to be back out on the grass. I’ll return to full training from next week and I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

“Of course, like everyone, I will have to fight my way back into the first-team because everyone has been doing fantastic over recent weeks.”

Leeds have certainly been in fantastic form recently and Bridcutt may have a battle on his hands getting back in the starting XI.

Youngsters Kalvin Phillips and Ronaldo Vieira have really stepped up in his absence whilst Eunan O’Kane has also been a force for Leeds.

The Irish international limped out of the game with Villa yesterday and that may mean Bridcutt’s return from ankle trouble is timely ahead of the fixture with Brighton in the Championship on Friday night.

Whilst he won’t expect to get a start in the game, the likelihood is he may be in the squad for the promotion clash.
