Leeds have swooped for one of Leyton Orient’s most promising youngsters.

Leeds United yesterday confirmed the signing of another young striker, 18-year-old Sam Dalby.

Dalby leaves non-league Leyton Orient, where he had made two appearances this season for the first team.

Dalby is going straight into Leeds’ under-23 side and will work under manager Carlos Corberan.

Leeds have several young forwards already at academy level, previously this transfer window confirming the permanent addition of Oliver Sarkic from Benfica.

Dalby’s contract had been due up in June, so Leyton Orient will be pleased to have received a small fee for the striker after financial difficulties in recent seasons.

The upheaval has not made for easy background for Dalby’s development, and while recently Leeds had been similar chaotic behind the scenes, new owner Andrea Radrizzani has brought stability and structure in at Elland Road.

Signing young players like Dalby is part of his strategy for the future.

Leeds technical director Victor Orta told the club’s official website he hopes Dalby will be competing in the club’s first team within two years.
