Lewis Morgan discusses Celtic return, comments on Aiden McGeady

Celtic will welcome back loaned-out winger Lewis Morgan.

Sunderland loanee Lewis Morgan has told The Scottish Sun that Neil Lennon has contacted his agent ahead of his return to Parkhead.

Morgan, 22, was snapped up by Brendan Rodgers in January 2018, with Celtic moving to sign him before heading back on loan to St Mirren.

The playmaker hit 18 goals in 42 games for St Mirren last season, but struggled to make the breakthrough with Celtic, playing just 13 times under Rodgers in the first half of this past season.

Celtic subsequently loaned Morgan to Sunderland in January, allowing him to reunite with his former St Mirren boss Jack Ross, giving him first-team football in League One.

Morgan missed out on promotion to the Championship as Sunderland lost the League One playoff final, an he’s now heading back to Celtic.

Morgan has now revealed that Celtic boss Lennon has phoned his agent about his Bhoys future, and the winger is keen to push on and impress next season after a loan spell, much like Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor and Kristoffer Ajer have.

The Scotland international also added that he spoke a lot with ex-Celtic winger Aiden McGeady at Sunderland, feeling he learned a lot from him – and Bhoys fans will surely hope that Morgan can become the next McGeady at Parkhead.

“Neil Lennon gave my agent a ring. It’s been quite a quick turnover for him and I’m sure he has been busy,” said Morgan. “The club have done really well, getting the treble Treble. That’s unprecedented. Now I’m looking forward to going back in and working with him. The aim is to play. That always has to be the aim. Being part of things week in and week out is what you want to do.”

“Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor did it and so did Kris Ajer. They improved by playing week in and week out and getting games in their legs. Then they went back and really pushed for the team. That’s what I’m aiming to do. I had a great six months down the road and I’m excited to come back up. Of the players there, I spoke a lot with Aiden McGeady. He has a similar background to me and a similar position. He is a great player and I learned a lot off him,” he added.
