Mayo is highly-rated within Rangers’ youth set-up.

Rangers youngster Lewis Mayo has suffered an injury just a month after signing a new deal with the club, which forced the teenager to withdraw from Scotland Under-19’s side before their 2-1 win over Wales.
Mayo, 18, had been called up by manager Billy Stark to face Wales and San Marino in the UEFA qualifying round. But the defender was forced to pull out of the squad, as Billy Gilmour’s double sunk the Welsh.
Glenn Middleton was also called up to the side, after breaking into Rangers’ first team and shining under the influence of Steven Gerrard. Dapo Mebude, Matthew Shiels, Jordan Houston, Matthew Shiels and Stephen Kelly were also picked.
But Mayo was confirmed as injured by Rangers’ youth academy Twitter page, who stated that the centre-back was forced to withdraw through injury. It is unclear what problem Mayo has encountered and indeed how long he will be out for.
One-time Scotland Under-19 international Mayo’s call-up was another sign of progress after he signed a new contract with the Gers last month, keeping him at Murray Park until the summer of 2021.
Mayo faces plenty of competition between him and Rangers’ starting eleven, with Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson, Gareth McAuley and Joe Worrall considered the four options for Gerrard in the first team.
It remains to be seen when Mayo will get back to full fitness, and if he can continue his rapid development under the watchful eye of Gerrard.
