HITC Sport understands that the striker was set to join Bournemouth until the Canaries failed to land a replacement.
Lewis Grabban has returned to Norwich City for talks on Wednesday, after seeing a deadline day move to Bournemouth fail to materialise, HITC Sport understands form sources close to the long-running saga.
The 27-year-old had been given permission by Norwich to travel to the South Coast on Tuesday, in anticipation of a deal being finalised.
Norwich were not prepared to push the green light on Grabban’s exit, however, until they had another striker in themselves – and that was Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace.
The Canaries got as far as offering personal terms to Gayle, but the deal with Palace was unable to be struck – which meant Grabban was left in limbo on deadline day.
Grabban had been suspended by Norwich last week – as revealed by HITC Sport – for leaving their team hotel without permission prior to their League Cup clash with Rotherham after a third bid from Bournemouth was rejected.
Grabban, who also put a transfer request in earlier in the month, is now due to meet with Norwich officials for talks about his immediate future.
