Lewis Gibson left Newcastle United and St. James’ Park to join Everton in 2017.
Everton’s Lewis Gibson has told the Liverpool Echo that he loved playing for Newcastle United.
Gibson left Newcastle back in 2017 to join Everton in the hope of improving his chances of fulfilling his potential.
The defender has just gone on to win the PL2 title with Everton’s under-23’s, which has gone some way to vindicating his decision to leave St. James’ Park.
But the youngster insists that he will never forget the role that the Magpies have played in his career.
“Obviously you still look out for Newcastle,” Gibson says.
“I’ve supported them since I was six and ever since I remember I’ve been going the game as a season ticket holder with my dad and brother.
“I’ll always be thankful for what they did for me. Every single coach I played with from u-9’s to u-18’s, I got on with.
“I knew the responsibility that they’d given me to play for Newcastle. That’s my hometown club. I loved playing for them.”
Gibson has just won the PL2 Player of the Month award for March, and he is regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters at Goodison Park.
The defender is yet to make his senior debut for Everton, but he is pushing hard to break into the first-team.
If Gibson does make it into the senior squad at Everton, he would be in competition with Leighton Baines and Lucas Digne for a starting place at left-back.
