Ex-Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook made his England debut on Tuesday night.
England played out a 1-1 draw with Italy at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night, in a game which saw Lewis Cook make his international debut.
The Three Lions were hoping to pick up another victory having beaten the Netherlands 1-0 on Friday night, but could only manage a draw against Italy.
Jamie Vardy put England in front with a fine finish from Jesse Lingard’s quickly-taken free kick, and Gareth Southgate’s men appeared to be heading towards victory before a late twist in the tale.
Debutant James Tarkowski was adjudged to have fouled Federico Chiesa, with VAR handing Italy a penalty, which Lorenzo Insigne converted to hand Italy a draw.
England were left disappointed to have only claimed a draw, but manager Southgate will surely have been pleased to see Lewis Cook make his international debut.
Midfielder Cook, 21, has impressed for Bournemouth in 2018, and ehe was rewarded with an England debut as a second half substitute, making his bow for Southgate’s men.
It’s been a great rise for the former Leeds prospect, and some of his former Whites teammates took to Twitter after Cook’s introduction to congratulate him.
Robbie McDaid, Ross Killock and Dominic Poleon, who came up through the Leeds ranks with Cook, sent messages to the midfielder, as did current Leeds full back Lewie Coyle, who is on loan at Fleetwood Town.
