Lewis Baker had the honour of being Marcelo Bielsa’s first signing at Leeds United after his appointment.

Baker even admitted that the chance to work with Bielsa was key to him choosing Leeds as his next loan move away from Chelsea.

So far it has not worked out for the midfielder.

Baker has played just 123 minutes of Championship football across eight substitute appearances and no starts.

He has not featured at all since October 6, so the chance to impress in front of a watching Bielsa for the under-23s yesterday against Crewe was a great opportunity.

Sadly for Baker it did not go well, with Leeds losing 3-1.

What’s worse, is that as the Yorkshire Evening Post reports, Baker was caught in possession for the passage of play for Crewe’s opener.

Leeds claimed a foul, but it was not awarded, and Baker was the fall guy.

Beyond this incident, Baker’s struggles to impact the game in a positive way remain a concern for the Whites.

Leeds need him to start forcing the issue in a positive way, to give Bielsa a selection problem in midfield.

It’s tough for him to build a case to break into Leeds’ table topping side when he struggles for the under-23s.
