Lewis Baker says he can’t wait to play in front of Leeds United’s famous fans at Elland Road after getting a glimpse of their support in midweek.

Leeds fans celebrate their team's victory during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Derby County at Elland Road on November 29, 2014 in Leeds, England.

Speaking to The Yorkshire Evening Post, Lewis Baker admitted that he was struck by the Leeds United fans’ support on Tuesday.

Leeds continued their pre-season preparations with a trip to League One side Oxford United earlier in the week, but Marcelo Bielsa’s side went down 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.

Baker, who joined the Whites on a season-long loan from Chelsea, where he earned £20,000 per week [Spotrac], scored United’s third for what was his first goal since arriving at the Championship club.

Well over 1,000 fans made the 170-mile trip from West Yorkshire to Oxford and packed out the away end at the Kassam Stadium which, for a pre-season friendly in midweek, is an exceptional feat.

And the new midfielder noticed that the visiting Leeds supporters were actually louder than the home fans during the game, something he found “impressive”.

He told The Yorkshire Evening Post: “I’ve heard a lot of good things about Leeds fans and it’s great how many fans we’ve had going to the away games.

“Travelling as far as Oxford – they were making more noise than them – was impressive. I’m really excited and I can’t wait to get playing at Elland Road.”

It’s no secret that Leeds fans are some of the best in the Championship, and head coach Bielsa will need them at their best on Sunday week when Stoke City visit Elland Road for each side’s curtain-raiser.
