Former Leeds United midfielder Lewis Baker hasn’t had a great start to life away from Elland Road.

Lewis Baker and Mateusz Klich stand dejected following the Carabao Cup Second Round match between Leeds United and Preston North End at Elland Road on August 28, 2018 in Leeds, England.

It’ll take more than leaving Leeds United for Lewis Baker to find a bit form.

The 23-year-old midfielder had his season-long loan agreement from Chelsea terminated by Leeds a little earlier this month.

Baker, who earns £20,000 per week in West London [Spotrac], was immediately loaned to Reading in the Championship, but it looks like he might struggle there too, if Saturday is anything to go by.

The 23-year-old, who started two Championship games for the Elland Road side since August, was taken off at half time in the Royals’ 2-1 defeat at Derby yesterday.

There is no mention of injury in the club’s official match report and considering he was replaced by Sone Aluko, a more attacking player, it’s plausible that his substitution was tactical.

It was Baker’s first start for Reading since Leeds axed him, but this is hardly a promising beginning to life under Jose Gomes.

It didn’t really happen for him under Marcelo Bielsa and you wonder whether the confidence-sapping effect of his full debut being ended at half-time could set the tone for another disappointing loan.
