Lewie Coyle questions Leeds fans’ role in his success during Fleetwood loan spell

Leeds United defender Lewie Coyle has made an extremely bright start to life with Fleetwood Town.

Lewie Coyle has suggested to the Yorkshire Evening Post that he is suspicious that some Leeds supporters may have been a key reason why he has won several man of the match awards since joining Fleetwood on loan.

Perhaps one of the unluckiest members of the Whites squad due to Luke Ayling’s consistency and reliability, Coyle left Elland Road in the summer to get regular first-team football with former Leeds boss Uwe Rosler at Highbury Stadium.

And the full-back seems to have made an extremely bright start to life with Fleetwood, starting all 11 of their League One games so far and winning a number of man of the match awards in quick succession.

But Coyle has questioned whether he has deserved the accolades or whether the Elland Road faithful have had a major influence on the voting for each man of the match award.

“I have to be honest, I’m wondering if a lot of Leeds fans are voting for me on Twitter,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I don’t know for sure but I’ve got my suspicions. But it’s nice if people think I’m doing well.”

While it is not clear whether the Leeds supporters have played their part in the votes, it would not be a surprise if they were taking a keen interest in how the defender was getting on.

Of all the players that Leeds have loaned out in recent times, Coyle is arguably the one who boasts the most potential and the brightest future, having done well when called upon by the first-team over the last few years, so it would not be a shock to see the Leeds fans trying to ensure that he is getting the credit and recognition they feel he deserves while he is away.
