Lewie Coyle hasn’t played for Leeds United in over two years.
Lewie Coyle has admitted to The Blackpool Gazette that he doesn’t know where he stands with Leeds United.
The 23-year-old defender is enjoying a third loan spell at Fleetwood Town in League One.
Coyle, a Leeds academy product, is scheduled to return to Elland Road in January, by which point he’ll only have six months left on his contract in West Yorkshire.
He hasn’t kicked a ball for the Whites in a competitive game since May 2017, and Coyle admits that it’s been so long that he was at the club that he can’t remember any conversations about the club’s plan for him.
“It has been that long that I’ve been to Leeds, I forget what conversations I have had there,” he told The Blackpool Gazette.
It’s quite an ominous admission by Coyle and it indicates that there isn’t much dialogue between him and Leeds at the moment, which suggests that the Championship side don’t have much plan for him in the future.
Stuart Dallas is impressing as United’s right-back at the minute, with Luke Ayling out injured, but Jamie Shackleton appears to be Marcelo Bielsa’s third-choice option.
The future looks extremely bleak as far as his Leeds career goes and it wouldn’t be that surprising if Coyle – who has 15 league appearances for United under his belt – never played for them again.
