The Leeds United right-back has hardly been seen this season but should get a run-out on Sunday.

Leeds United and their supporters were supposed to be celebrating ahead of their final league game of the regular season against Wigan Athletic, with Garry Monk’s side flying high for much of the campaign.

However, a late-season slump means Leeds will not be contesting the play-offs, instead left to see out a meaningless match against the Latics that could signal the end for some of the current playing staff.

Whatever happens to the likes of Charlie Taylor and Kyle Bartley, there is one player who will still be at Elland Road next season and he deserves to start on Sunday.

Lewie Coyle has had to wait patiently for his chances this season, with injury and competition for places both impacting his campaign, yet despite featuring only three times in the league under Monk, the right-back should start against Wigan.

Sunday’s match is a chance to give some fringe players a chance to shine, and while both Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi have been superb for Leeds this season, it is time they temporarily stepped aside and allowed Coyle to show what he can do.

The 21-year-old is highly rated at Elland Road and it will be interesting to see how things play out next season, especially if Taylor leaves and Berardi becomes the undisputed number one left-back allowing Coyle and Ayling to battle it out on the opposite flank.
