Leeds United youngster Lewie Coyle always knew it would be a challenge playing regularly this season, especially when Luke Ayling arrived to compete with him and Gaetano Berardi for the right-back spot.

When the latter was injured on the opening weekend of the season, Coyle got his chance, but that was his one and only Championship appearance to date under Leeds boss Garry Monk.

Instead Coyle has had to make do with three outings in the EFL Cup, and with a fourth round clash against Norwich City on the horizon he deserves to keep his place even with Berardi back and ready to make up for lost time.

Monk will no doubt want to give Berardi a run-out to build up his fitness, but that should be on the opposite flank, allowing Coyle to continue his fine run in the competition this season.

Coyle is too talented to be shunted out of contention now Berardi has returned, and although the Swiss full-back and Ayling will be competing for Championship minutes in the short term, the 21-year-old deserves to play every minute in the cup competitions as he continues his own promising development at Leeds.
