Lewie Coyle has left Leeds United to join Fleetwood Town on a season-long loan.
Lewie Coyle has explained to BBC Radio Leeds that Charlie Taylor’s positive opinion of his loan spell at Fleetwood helped inspire his decision to leave Leeds and drop into League One for a season-long loan.
Coyle had previously been knocking on the door at Elland Road, making a handful of first-team appearances during the last campaign when the Whites came desperately close to sealing a play-off spot.

However, he has decided to leave the club for a year, joining former Leeds boss Uwe Rosler at Highbury Stadium. And he suggested that Taylor’s progression soon after his move to the same club a few years ago helped make his mind up.
“He’d always made it clear that Fleetwood had a massive impact on his career, and obviously, it stood him in good stead for the long run,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.
“It’s probably one of the main reasons why he is where he is today.
“He always spoke highly of the club and everything involved with the club so that always was in the back of my mind, and obviously when the opportunity came up, it was one that I took with both hands and jumped at.”
Charlie Taylor
Taylor – who looks set to leave the Whites imminently, according to Sky Sports – will surely reflect that his loan spell at Fleetwood was a game-changer for his career as it really helped him make an impression that allowed him to quickly become a first-team regular for Leeds within around a year of his return.
And with Coyle arguably situated below Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi in the pecking order before his departure, he will be hoping that his spell has as positive an impact on his career as it had on Taylor’s.
