Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he believes Daniel Levy would be willing to sell Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this summer.
Kane has played every minute for Tottenham since the restart, with Jose Mourinho clearly a huge fan of the England international.
Kane is Tottenham’s standout player, and carries most of their goal threat.
But Lawrenson believes that Levy could be tempted to part with Kane if a sizeable offer comes in.
“Spurs have got a lot of work to do if they want to get nearer the top two next season, but with Harry Kane in their side, they always carry a goal threat,” he explained.
“The worry there is that someone might come in for Kane and say to him ‘look, come and play for a team who try to win games’ because I don’t imagine playing up front for Spurs is too much fun at the moment – he is being fed off scraps.
“Plus, we have seen before with Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Carrick that, if players want to leave and a big enough offer is received, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is willing to sell.”
If Tottenham were to offload Kane it would be a huge blow to the club, and surely leave question marks over their ambition for the future.
Tottenham have struggled this term and if they are to improve they will surely need to keep their key players around, rather than lose them.
Keeping Kane happy for the long-term could be problematic for Spurs if they don’t improve though.
The 26-year-old is one of the standout players in world football and if Tottenham do not have Champions League football on offer, then he will surely have to question his future, despite his strong affinity towards the club.
