Apart from Gareth Bale and Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen was arguably Tottenham fans’ favourite player over the last decade. The Dane was adored by Spurs supporters, but he was adamant that he wanted to leave last season.

Eriksen switched North London for Inter Milan at the start of the year. That seemed a brilliant move on paper, but things haven’t quite worked out for the former Ajax midfielder in the Italian top-flight.

The Dane started just 11 games in all competitions last season. Eriksen’s luck hasn’t changed this term either. The former Spurs man has featured for just 73 minutes so far, and he has voiced his frustration over lack of playing time.

He said, as per The Independent: “I don’t want to sit the bench for the whole season. I hope this isn’t the coach’s or the club’s intention. It is going to be a busy season, lot of games in the programme, I expect to play. It’s never nice to sit the bench and one tends to be less patient as his experience grows.”

“There are many expectations on me, people thought I’d do the difference in every game, but it didn’t happen. That’s why they are looking at me with different eyes. I’ve had highs and lows after the lockdown. I had a great start with Inter after I arrived and now I am living in a new situation.”

That really is shame. The Dane, at his best, could make a huge difference for Inter this season. The Nerazzurri are aiming to dethorne Juventus in the Serie A, and the chances of that happening will increase if a fit and firing Eriksen plays every week.

However, Antonio Conte doesn’t quite see him in his plans. Eriksen isn’t the Italian’s first choice, and unless things change drastically in the coming weeks, he will likely have to look for a move elsewhere.

Spurs fans have had their say about Eriksen on social media. Some have welcomed him back to North London, while others feel that it his fault for forcing a move away from a place where he was truly loved.

Here’s how a few of them reacted on Twitter
