Fabrizio Romano has claimed on the Last Word on Spurs podcast (10 minutes, 30 seconds) that Daniel Levy is convinced that Tottenham Hotspur’s Tanguy Ndombele can have a big second season at the club.
Ndombele set Tottenham back a record fee last summer, but he has struggled to make any sort of positive impact throughout his time at the club so far.
The Frenchman has fallen further and further down the pecking order since Jose Mourinho came in, with his fitness and attitude called into question.
The Daily Mail have suggested recently that Tottenham could look to sell Ndombele.
But Romano insists that the situation isn’t quite as clear-cut as that.
Ndombele still is very well liked by Tottenham’s board, with Levy a massive fan of the former Lyon man.
And although Inter Milan are interested, Spurs have a high put a high valuation on Ndombele.
“I think the situation with Ndombele for himself is that if Tottenham want to keep him, he will fight for Tottenham. He is not dispirited with the club,” Romano said.
“He will be really respectful with Tottenham’s decision.

“The board at Tottenham are convinced that Ndombele is a top player.
“The real problem is that Mourinho is not so happy with the mentality of Ndombele, he wants more from him.
“The club don’t want sell him but Jose wants the club to consider some possible bids.
“Inter Milan tired to sign him two or three weeks ago. They tried a swap deal with Milan Skriniar, but without any fee. Tottenham don’t want to accept a bid of Skriniar without any money.
“Levy is convinced that Ndombele can have a top second season as a Tottenham player.”
The risk for Spurs is that if Ndombele has another poor season then his value could diminish even further.
It is difficult for players to win favour with Mourinho once he has lost faith, so Ndombele is almost certainly going to need to start the season sharply if he is to convince the Portuguese boss to give him more regular game time.
Ndombele does have even more competition for his place at Tottenham now too, as Spurs have already brought in Pierre Emile Hojbjerg this summer.
