Tottenham Hotspur still hold the cards over Christian Eriksen despite his expiring contract.
The Telegraph reported Spurs ‘fear’ European teams making low bids (below £50 million) if Thursday’s deadline passes.
This is reportedly prompting Tottenham to consider sanctioning a move which would see Eriksen stay in the Premier League, with Manchester United interested.
But for £10-20 million extra, for Tottenham, is it really worth it?
Spurs have an eye on Bruno Fernandes and Giovani Lo Celso as potential replacements, so they won’t necessarily lose out by letting Eriksen go.
Strengthening a top four rival is less wise, and that’s what they would be doing by letting Eriksen head to Old Trafford.
Tottenham could sell Eriksen for less, but ensure he moves abroad.
Surely this is preferable from a Tottenham perspective than a few extra million, so that the Dane cannot come back to bite them?
This would be a case of Tottenham deciding that financial gain is more important than on pitch success, and it could backfire.
