Former Tottenham Hotspur chairman Lord Sugar has defended manager Mauricio Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy.
Former Tottenham Hotspur chairman Lord Sugar has leapt to the defence of current manager Mauricio Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy.
Both men have been criticised this week after Tottenham’s inconsistent recent form.
Pochettino has attracted criticism for the performances of the team while Levy has been criticised for the nature of Tottenham’s recent transfer business.
However, Sugar believes that the responsibility falls with the players claiming those who want Levy out ‘don’t know what they’re talking about’.
“People saying ‘Levy out, Levy out’, they don’t know what they are talking about. If Spurs are going to progress, he is their best ally. All he can do is listen to the managers that he appoints,” said Sugar in an exclusive for talkSPORT.
“We have got a new manager and the fans have got to be patient. We have to give the man a chance.”
“Many of these foreign players that were brought in see the Premier League as the land of milk and honey and half of them I don’t know who they think they are.”
It’s a fair point considering that the players are the individuals who have a physical impact on the results.
One of the possible problems with the current side is leadership with the second half performance against Newcastle United in the 2-1 defeat an example where strong leadership could have seen Spurs protect and improve on their 1-0 lead.
The side was slammed for the lethargic way they went about the immediate start of the second-half, which saw Newcastle equalise quickly.
Pochettino can only do so much to get his messages across before games and at half-time but responsibility falls onto the players to adapt to difficult situations developing during games.
Tottenham face difficult matches against Hull City and Everton in the Premier League when the latest international break is over before a total of eight games in December including matches against Chelsea and Manchester United.
The players need to be switched on and focused to make sure Spurs don’t lose those games.
