Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk over the compensation needed for winger Manor Solomon.

Shakhtar Donetsk are now demanding around £5.6m in compensation for Tottenham Hotspur winger Manor Solomon.

That is according to The Athletic, who claim that Shakhtar and Tottenham are discussing the terms needed for Solomon.

This may sound strange given that Solomon is already a Tottenham player having joined Spurs earlier in the transfer window.

Solomon’s contract situation isn’t the usual though; whilst out of contract in December of this year, he has been able to suspend his Shakhtar contract due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

That meant Solomon has joined Tottenham but Shakhtar want compensation given that there were still a few months left on his deal.

Shakhtar are demanding £5.6million for Solomon having previously threatened Tottenham with legal action if they signed the winger.

This situation is unlikely to come to that with relations between the two clubs strong; they even met in a pre-season friendly on Sunday.

Manor Solomon talks underway for Tottenham

That friendly has opened the door for direct talks between Shakhtar and Tottenham.

The Athletic’s report adds that Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin and Tottenham’s director of football administration and governance Rebecca Caplehorn took place on Sunday.

Daniel Levy has not been involved; the Spurs chairman is currently away in the United States and that’s why Capelhorn was fronting the Tottenham talks.

Shakhtar are demanding that £5.6million but it’s stated that Tottenham have so far only offered a sell-on clause which could make Shakhtar money down the line.

That is unlikely to get the deal done and negotiations are now ongoing to try and thrash out an agreement.

Solomon, 24, looks set to offer competition for both Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski on the Tottenham flanks.

The Israeli made an appearance as a substitute against Shakhtar on Sunday in what will have been an emotional moment for him.

Tottenham will now hope to get this situation ironed out as soon as possible, with some cash certainly needed rather than just a sell-on clause.
