Football’s unpredictability is why we all love it, but sometimes, it’s just downright bizarre, and Daniel Levy may be about to make an incredibly strange appointment at Spurs.
We’ve heard about plenty of potentially strange appointments in recent weeks, with Rafa Benitez seemingly in line for the Everton job, despite being a former Liverpool boss, but Spurs could be about to make an equally as bizarre appointment.
Indeed, while Benitez may have called Everton a small club once upon a time and managed one of their rivals, at least he’s never headbutted the Toffees’ assistant manager and grabbed him by the throat.
Unfortunately, the same can not be said about Genarro Gattuso amid links to the Tottenham job.
Yes, the maverick Italian is reportedly now the number one candidate to get the Spurs job in a bizarre turn of events after talks with Paulo Fonseca broke down.
Given his famous temper and no-nonsense approach, Gattuso would be a controversial appointment at any club, but given his history with Spurs, this one does seem very peculiar.

For anyone who doesn’t remember, back in 2011 during a Champions League clash between Tottenham and AC Milan, Gattuso lost his rag and headbutted Joe Jordan, who was Harry Redknapp’s assistant manager at the time, before attempting to take on the entire Tottenham squad and backroom team.
We have to wonder, did Daniel Levy watch that incident with Gattuso and think ‘that’s the man who I want managing this club a decade from now’? We have to imagine the answer is now.
As you can imagine, Tottenham supporters had a few choice words about Gattuso after that match, and it’s hard to imagine that every fan will be quick to forgive and forget if he’s appointed.
Benitez to Everton is a strange one given the Spaniard’s links to Liverpool, but appointing a manager who has previously physically assaulted a member of your staff? That’s unheard of.
