Well, Antonio Conte might be getting his wish at Tottenham Hotspur after all.

Conte made headlines after Spurs’ midweek defeat at Burnley following an explosive post-match interview at Turf Moor.

In it, the Italian manager suggested that Tottenham are free to terminate his contract if they feel that he is insufficient in North London.

The 52-year-old joined the Lilywhites in November, having won a Scudetto in Italy with Inter Milan five months earlier.

This is a brilliant football manager, but one who is frustrated, evident by an earlier interview with Sky Italia in February.

However, The Evening Standard has reported that Conte – who only signed one player on a permanent basis in January – has been told by chairman Daniel Levy that he’ll have transfer funds to shape the squad in his image this summer.

Good news?

Absolutely. A thousand times, yes.

As mentioned, Conte, who won a Premier League title with Chelsea in 2017, is a wonderful football manager and keeping him at Tottenham has to be the priority.

If Levy supplies him and Fabio Paratici, the managing director, with the sort of budget that can transform the Lilywhites then he’ll make it show on the pitch, too.

However, Conte, as he has proven, is very erratic and unpredictable and you do get the feeling that he could quit Tottenham at any moment, underlining why it’s so important for Levy to have offered up this ‘guarantee’ of money.

It’s a brilliant play by Levy and hopefully one that settles the storm.
