Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has been discussing the possibility of Mauricio Pochettino replacing Antonio Conte at Spurs.

Conte is, once again, being linked with a move away from Tottenham as Juventus are reportedly keen to bring the Italian back to Turin.

With rumours of Conte’s departure circulating, there have inevitably been conversations about Spurs’ next step, and with Pochettino being a free agent, his name has cropped up on more than one occasion.

Back when Conte was linked with the PSG job, Pochettino was reportedly on Daniel Levy’s radar, but according to Jacobs, the Spurs chairman has never actually been a fan of the idea of bringing Poch back to the north London club for a second spell in charge.

Pochettino back to Spurs?

Jacobs shared what he knows about Pochettino and Levy’s view.

“There are no guarantees. The irony of the merry-go-round is that Tottenham may go for Nagelsmann or they could go in a different direction. I think Pochettino to Spurs has had its day. There may have been possibilities in previous seasons, but Levy has never been a fan of going back to Pochettino, so why would he suddenly change his mind?” Jacobs said.

Should Pochettino go back?

It’s often said that you should never go back in football, but is that always the best advice?

Of course, in some scenarios returning to an old manager can be a bad idea, just look at Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool and Kevin Keegan at Newcastle, but that isn’t necessarily always the case.

David Moyes’ second spell at West Ham has been miles better than his first, while Jose Mourinho won another Premier League title for Chelsea in his second spell in charge.

Pochettino remains a fantastic manager, and Spurs could do a lot worse than the Argentine if they’re in need of a Conte replacement anytime soon.
