Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly held talks with Vladimir Coufal over a potential move in January, with the West Ham defender eager to sign for the Bundesliga side.
According to Sky Germany journalist Marlon Irlbacher, initial discussions took place last night as Leverkusen prepare to move for Coufal, with the Czech Republic international keen on a move to German after ‘positive talks’ with the UEFA Champions League side.

Coufal has made close to 90 appearances for West Ham after joining the east London side from Slavia Prague in 2020. However, the right-back’s time in England looks to be drawing to a close, with Leverkusen likely to sign the defender in the January window.
Moreover, the West Ham star has largely seen his playing time this season come in the form of the UEFA Europa Conference League, with Coufal playing every minute of the group stages whilst only featuring in three Premier League games since the competition began.
Indeed, with Coufal now 30, it would make sense why the player is keen to move to a club as big as Leverkusen, with this January realistically the last chance the fullback has at signing for a team who have a shot of regularly qualifying for the Champions League.
West Ham should allow Coufal to sign for Leverkusen

Coufal’s time at West Ham has been short and sweet, with the defender playing a big role in David Moyes’ side qualifying for Europe two years in a row as well as making the UEFA Europa League semi-finals last season. And this is why the Irons should allow the Czech star to leave in January.
After all, Moyes has already made some changes to the personnel in the position based on his Premier League XI’s. And for Coufal himself, this window could be the last time the West Ham defender has as good a chance as this to sign for a club like Leverkusen in the final years of his career.
