It looks like Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira enjoyed a successful debut for Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Diego Simeone’s side beat Celta Vigo 2-0 away from home and the Argentine named Torreira in his first XI.

The Uruguay international, a £27 million signing by Arsenal in 2018, joined the Spanish outfit on loan earlier this summer, shortly before the Gunners signed Thomas Partey.

The 24-year-old, who lasted 90 minutes, managed a pass percentage of 89.9 yesterday, also clocking five interceptions for Atletico.

Here’s how fans of the Spanish club reacted to his performance:

Nobody doubts Torreira’s talent, because he enjoyed a fantastic first year at Arsenal under Unai Emery.

But his second season was puncutated by a loss of fitness and form – and once Emery made way for Mikel Arteta, it was even worse for the South American midfielder.

But a season under Simeone could do absolute wonders for his talent and confidence and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares for the rest of the season.
