Tottenham Hotspur fans were left wowed by Andros Townsend’s performance during Everton’s 3-1 win against Burnley on Monday night.
The 30-year-old rolled back the years by scoring an absolute belter for the Toffees, as they came back from 1-0 down to secure all three points at Goodison Park.
And Spurs fans loved the second-half assist, but especially the long-range dipping effort which Townsend scored from 30 yards out.
Nick Pope, in Burnley’s goal, had absolutely no chance, as Townsend’s left-footed strike was hit with venom, precision and dip.
It has been five years since Spurs sold Townsend to Newcastle, who at the time were managed by Steve McLaren and then later on Rafa Benitez.
And now a more mature Townsend is being managed by Benitez again, but this time in the colours of Everton.
Spurs fans have expressed that they are delighted for their player and how he just can’t stop scoring top-quality goals.
Some even suggested that he is perhaps better than what they already have at their disposal in North London.
This summer, many felt that Townsend, who left Crystal Palace when his contract expired, is one of the signings of the window, especially given that he joined Everton on a free.
And so far, he is proving that’s the case because he has started the new season like a house on fire.
It’s still early on in the campaign and anything can happen yet, but Everton’s inability to spend because of FFP seems to have helped them.
