Dimitar Berbatov has boldly backed Arsenal to challenge for the forthcoming Premier League title, as he told Stadium Astro.
The former Spurs striker pointed towards the Gunners winning two trophies under Mikel Arteta since his arrival last December – the FA Cup and the Community Shield.
Liverpool and Manchester City are the teams to beat, whilst Chelsea have once again spent heavily in the transfer market, so they will be expected to challenge, but could it be a step too far for the those at the Emirates Stadium?
Well, not for Berbatov because when the presenter reeled off the teams that could challenge for the title next season, the former United man reminded him to include Arsenal in the talk.
“All the teams you mentioned [Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs & Manchester United] are correct and all the teams you mentioned, they will be there [in the title race],” Berbatov told Stadium Astro.
“Let’s not forget Arsenal because they have won two cups now under Arteta, so all these teams are the usual suspects. They are always there.”
“I think every team will try to push harder so they can catch City and Liverpool because they are a little above them.”
Arsenal’s record transfer deals
- Nicolas Pepe
£72 million
- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
£56 million
- Alexandre Lacazette
£52 million
- Thomas Partey
45 million
- Mesut Ozil
£42 million
In truth, if Arteta can bag a top-four finish for Arsenal next season then their fans will be satisfied because they need to take small steps in their challenge to get back to the top.
Arteta has seemingly worked miracles since he joined the club before Christmas because they were on their knees after the appointment of Unai Emery had started to go really wrong.
The business Arsenal have conducted so far during this summer window has been strong, with the two standout purchases being Gabriel from Lille and the smart free-transfer of Willian.
