Liverpool’s Fabinho could’ve been staring down the barrel of a six-month absence.
The Brazilian came off injured in Tuesday’s Champions League win over Midtjyyland and The Mirror reported that a grade three tear of his hamstring could have resulted in him being absent for most of the season.
But the same report adds that the Liverpool stalwart – who has been playing centre-back – avoided that specific issue and scans have revealed that it’s only a grade one or two.
The former Monaco star will still miss the Reds’ next three games in all competitions, but this is clearly nowhere near as bad as it could’ve been.
Here’s how Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to the news:
Liverpool face Manchester City on November 8 and Jurgen Klopp will probably need him back by then.
With Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip absent, Joe Gomez is the club’s only experienced and recognised centre-back right now.
Even Fabinho is a central midfielder by trade and only had a handful of games in that role, but he impressed and therefore it’s imperative that he’s fit to face Pep Guardiola’s side in two weeks.
