Jermaine Jenas has shut down Liverpool’s Premier League title chances and made it clear that their chances of winning it this season have ‘gone’, as he told MOTDx.

Ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Arsenal on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp’s men are sitting tenth in the Premier League table – they have played seven matches and have games(s) in hand on everyone, bar Manchester United, above them in the table.

It’s Manchester City, led by the goal-crazy Erling Haaland, that are sitting top of the Premier League tree, after they eased past Southampton on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who are chasing Champions League football, can go back to the top of the table on Sunday, if they beat the Reds on home soil.

If it’s another defeat for Liverpool, then they will fall 14 behind the current leaders heading into a very busy period before the 2022 World Cup next month.

But, even then, Jenas thinks those from Merseyside don’t have a chance to secure glory again as champions of England, for this season, at least.

“You’re not thinking you are going to win the league, surely?” said Jenas. “Yes (you don’t have a chance at all). I am saying the Champions League is achievable.

“But, in terms of winning the Premier League, that’s gone! Let’s be real now.”

DON’T WRITE OFF LIVERPOOL

Arsenal are going places under Arteta, but this current team isn’t proven like Liverpool are during those crunch and difficult moments of the season.

Yes, the Reds can’t continue to produce error-prone ways at the back, but their ability to constantly post 90+ points over a campaign, only to be beaten by one of the best teams in recent history, is something to be admired about.

They don’t spend silly amounts like those at the Etihad, but you can back them to go on runs that keep them near the top and still able to challenge for top honours.

It’s only one Premier League title during the Klopp era for Liverpool, but during any other time, this team is probably winning multiple more trophies.
