Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Kevin Campbell has been discussing Cedric Soares and Arsenal’s squad depth.

The full-back has been a regular starter for Arsenal in recent weeks after an injury to Takehiro Tomiyasu, and for all the stick Cedric has gotten in recent years, he’s done a fine job as of late.

Campbell made a point about squad depth, and he said that Arsenal could do with some more players like Cedric.

What’s been said?

Campbell spoke about the Gunners’ depth and Cedric.

“It has to be competitive and what you add has to enhance what you have. You have to know the people you bring in can do a job. It’s fine margins at the top end of the league, one mistake will cost you. If you suffer injuries you need to know that the players coming in can do a job. Let’s be honest, Cedric has done a good job for us and he’s been much-maligned, so we need more of that,” Campbell said.

Been brilliant

Say what you will about Cedric’s quality over the years, but in recent weeks, he’s been nothing short of brilliant.

He’s not lit up the Emirates, but he’s come in as a second-choice and not looked out of place for a single second. What more do you want?

As Campbell says, Arsenal need more players of this ilk who can step in when injuries occur, and while they need to strengthen their starting XI slightly this summer, adding more depth should also be a priority.
