Gary Neville has claimed that Granit Xhaka is ‘not going to change now’ for Arsenal, as he told Super Sunday on Sky Sports.
Over the weekend, Xhaka returned to Arsenal’s starting XI – after suspension, for his side’s 3-1 win in the North London derby.
In typical Xhaka fashion, he picked up a booking, and after a combative display, he hobbled off with what looked like an issue with his knee in the second half.
Whether he is hated or loved, one thing is for sure, Xhaka will always divide opinion amongst the fans and that will never change.
Neville thinks the £30 million player (Sky Sports) can ‘let you down’ one day and then produce a ‘great performance’ the next, but it will never change him as a person.
“He’s not going to change now,” said Neville. “He’s going to give you great performances then he’s going to be rash in other games and let you down.
“It’s what he has been doing for a number of years here. When he is at his best, then he can play. He has a personality as well.”

Whilst the opinions differ about Xhaka in the stands, from the media and by pundits, one thing that’s constant is the managers that continue to pick him.
He has played every single North London derby he has been available for and been picked by every manager – permanent or temporary – that he has worked under at club and international level.
There is no doubt a rashness to his game, which even at this level of experience, he hasn’t been unable to get out of his system.
But his bravery with the ball, out on the pitch and leadership qualities seem to be traits that are well-liked by those who pick him on a weekly basis.
