Tim Sherwood told Premier League Productions that Arsenal defender Gabriel ‘lets you down at every given moment’.

Even though Gabriel has been a rare shining light in what has been an abject start to Arsenal’s season, Sherwood thinks the summer signing has ill-discipline issues.

Gabriel missed Arsenal’s defeat to Everton over the weekend because he was serving a suspension after receiving two yellow cards during his side’s draw with Southampton in midweek.

But Sherwood’s comments about Gabriel will sure anger the Arsenal faithful given the positive start he has had to life at the Emirates.

“It’s a mess and it was a mess when he took over,” said Sherwood. “I still think they need a lot of players. I think their recruitment has been poor.

“Hard to say Partey has been a success. He has played two and a half games. Gabriel seems to let you down at every given moment because he’s ill-disciplined

“They need players. What is success for Arsenal now? They’re not going to get relegated. I don’t think they will.”

Gabriel will be expected to return for Arsenal ahead of their League Cup showdown against Manchester City tomorrow night.

Whilst those in North London have struggled in the Premier League, it has been a different story in cup competitions, as the FA Cup, Community Shield (both last season and in the summer) and the League Cup and the Europa League have proven.

Arteta needs to find some life somewhere and he needs to get a reaction from the players, who have let him and the club down on a number of occasions this season.
