Jurgen Klopp has conceded that Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez would score more goals if he played for Manchester City.
Nunez became the Reds’ most expensive signing of all time this past summer after joining for a staggering £85 million from Benfica.
Problem is, the 23-year-old isn’t looking like an £85 million player for Liverpool as of yet.
According to Transfermarkt, the Uruguay international has managed only three goals in nine appearances across all competitions – and only two in the Premier League.
That’s perhaps among the reasons as to why Liverpool are struggling to compete at the top end of the Premier League this season, because losing to Pep Guardiola’s side at Anfield tomorrow would mean that City are 16 points ahead of them.
In contrast to Nunez, Erling Haaland is ripping up English football as expected and has scored 20 goals in all competitions already.
And Klopp has admitted that the Liverpool hitman would probably score more under Guardiola, too.
He said to talkSPORT: “Let me say it like this, I think Darwin Nunez would have scored a couple more goals if he had played in the centre of Man City this season.”
It’s an odd admission by the German manager because he’s basically admitting that City have a better supporting cast than the Reds.
And although that’s undeniably true this season, acknowledging it in public, before you’re meant to play your biggest domestic rivals, is a tad questionable to say the least.
