Darren Bent has told TalkSport (04/10/20 at 7:45 pm) that he wants Arsenal to ‘move out’ Matteo Guendouzi before Monday’s deadline despite previously thinking he was the ‘real deal’ for the club.
The former Premier League striker, who is a boyhood Arsenal fan, shared how the midfielder has ‘let himself down’ following his actions against Brighton many months ago now.
Ever since that day, Guendouzi hasn’t featured for Mikel Arteta, but it seems Bent may now get his wish because Hertha Berlin will sign him before the 11 pm shut off after, according to the Daily Mirror.
It was a promising start to life in North London for Guendouzi, but Bent suggested that he hasn’t been able to turn his career around at Arsenal like a certain Granit Xhaka has been able to do so.
“Guendouzi, I think he was showing signs at the start of last season,” Bent told TalkSport. “I thought, yes, this could be the real deal.
“[But] he let himself down against Brighton. I thought he wouldn’t be able to find his way back. We have seen Granit Xhaka, he has turned it completely around and he has been one of their main men.
“But for Guendouzi, I’d like to see him potentially move out.”
Arsenal’s record transfer deals
- Nicolas Pepe
£72 million
- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
£56 million
- Alexandre Lacazette
£52 million
- Thomas Partey
45 million
- Mesut Ozil
£42 million
Whilst Guendouzi wasn’t exactly wowing the Arsenal faithful week in and week out, it was obvious that there was potential on the table.
But he has lifted the cloth from the table himself and seemingly ruined his career at the club.
It will be interesting to see how his career pans out away from Arsenal because if he ends up proving people wrong then it may result in a few angry supporters asking questions in years to come.
