Manchester City fans have provided a mixed reaction to a recent report that they want to re-sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa.
Globo Esporte reported that City are planning to trigger the buy-back clause in Luiz’s contract, which has understandably sent a number of Villa fans into a panic.
Since then, mixed reports have emerged regarding Luiz’s future with reliable Midlands and Telegraph journalist, John Percy, claiming that the Villa man won’t be returning to the Etihad and instead his current club will offer him a new contract.
From the perspective of Villa, their fans will be happy to hear that there are a selection of City supporters who don’t want Luiz to re-join them.
But there are others who feel that they should bring him back given their problems in defensive-midfield and Fernandinho’s age – he moved to the Midlands from City for £15 million last summer [BBC Sport].
Pep Guardiola’s side were well-beaten in the race for the Premier League title this term and once again failed to prove their worth in Europe.
Added with that, City like to spend and given that the recently concluded campaign will be seen as a failure, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they dip into their pockets again and freshen up their squad.
Nathan Ake has already arrived for Bournemouth, so it shows that City aren’t afraid to pinch a player who has been part of a relegation battle, or in this case, actually been relegated.
Whilst City fans are mixed in the rumours surrounding Luiz’s future, there’s no doubt that those at Villa will want him to stay ahead of the new campaign.
