Tim Sherwood praised Liverpool’s recruitment team on Sky Sports News (2:10pm, December 12, 2020) for signing Georginio Wijnaldum after he had turned out for Newcastle United.
Wijnaldum has been on the books of Liverpool since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Newcastle for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £25 million and has established himself as an important player in the team.
The 30-year-old Netherlands international moved to the Magpies from PSV in the summer of 2015 after starting his professional club football career at Feyenoord.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager Sherwood has praised the Liverpool recruitment team for bringing in Wijnaldum after he had proven himself in the Premier League at Newcastle.
Sherwood said on Sky Sports News (2:10pm, December 12, 2020): “Gini Wijnaldum, the only thing I can say about him is he is an unbelievable footballer.
“He is a manager’s dream, and he is an example of great recruitment at Liverpool Football Club because he was at Feyenoord, they did not take them from there, they let him rehearse in the Premier League at Newcastle. He comes back and they say, ‘You are playing’, and he hits the floor running.”
New contract for Georginio Wijnaldum?
Wijnaldum is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen if he signs a new deal.
The 30-year-old is a big player in manager Jurgen Klopp’s side, and his role in Liverpool winning the Premier League title and the Champions League over the past two seasons cannot be undermined.
