Lessons learnt: Four rumoured additions would give Leeds perfect start to the summer

Leeds United are being linked with a host of players ahead of the summer transfer window.

Leeds United have endured a miserable 2018, and fans will be hoping for a major summer transfer window to boost their hopes going into next season – even with unpopular boss Paul Heckingbottom at the helm.

The Whites have won just three times since the turn of the year, and it’s not only Heckingbottom who is under pressure, with owner Andrea Radrizzani and director of football Victor Orta both coming in for stern criticism.

A quick start to the summer transfer window is imperative, and four players have been linked which would not only present Leeds with greater strength, but also show that they have learnt some key lessons from last summer.

The Sun reported recently that Leeds want to sign Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, who hasn’t played since December but offers vast experience at 33 years of age.

The Irishman is a proven Championship goalkeeper who can help develop youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell, though Wednesday may be difficult to deal with given that he has one more year left on his contract.

Meanwhile, the Yorkshire Evening Post have reported that Leeds are not only in talks to re-sign defender Kyle Bartley from Swansea City, but also full back Andy Yiadom when his Barnsley contract expires this summer.

Both players know what the Championship is all about and can solve problems in Heckingbottom’s defence, which has been leaky for spells of this season.

Finally, the Daily Mail report that Leeds want Swansea striker Oliver McBurnie, whose impressive form on loan at Barnsley – nine goals in 16 games – may suggest that he can be the regular goalscorer Leeds have needed since selling Chris Wood to Burnley.

All four players can boost Heckingbottom’s squad, and would suggest that Orta has learnt his lesson in the transfer market, focusing on proven Championship performers rather than almost exclusively gambling on foreign imports – and that may just give Leeds fans some optimism heading into next term.
