Speaking on a video posted to Tottenham Hotspur’s Twitter page, Fabio Paratici has been discussing some of Tottenham’s young players and Djed Spence.

Spence was signed by Tottenham in a £15m move from Middlesbrough after a long-term pursuit, and while he seemed to be Spurs’ top target this summer, he’s yet to get a real first-team chance.

Paratici says that he believes in Spence’s ability, but he does admit that the wing-back is less ready than some of Tottenham’s other signings due to the fact he’s come from the Championship rather than another top league.

What’s been said?

Paratici spoke about Tottenham’s young players and Spence.

“If we sign a player it’s because we believe in these players. Destiny will stay in Udinese one more year and the others; Sarr, Spence and even don’t forget Bryan Gil because he’s really young. People forget sometimes that Sessegnon, Emerson, Romero and Kulusevski are just 21 or 22, so I think this group of players, some are more ready and lucky enough to play in more matches before at the beginning of their career and some are less ready because they arrive for example Spence from the Championship, Sarr from Metz, so it is more difficult for them,” Paratici said.

Time on his side

Djed Spence isn’t deemed to be ready for top-level Premier League football yet due to his lack of experience, but luckily, he has time on his side.

At the age of just 21, Spence has more than a decade of his career ahead of him, and while he may be raring to go, patience is a virtue.

It’s better for Spence to get a chance when he’s truly ready rather than being thrown in at the deep end and having his confidence and reputation destroyed.

A young player with this level of talent needs to be managed correctly.
