Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Djed Spence.

The wing-back has long been linked with Spurs, and according to a number of sources, the defender is set to join Tottenham this summer.

Eccleshare himself believes that a move for Spence will be done eventually, and while it may be taking some time, he says that Tottenham aren’t worried about the prospect of this deal being hijacked.

What’s been said?

Eccleshare spoke about Spurs’ move for Spence.

“I do think it will get done eventually, it’s worth remembering as well that even though it seems to have gone on for ages it’s only late June, he’s been on holiday and he’s played for the England U21s, so that has delayed it.

“He wants to go to Spurs so that puts Tottenham in a strong position because I feel that they’re less fearful that anyone will come in and scupper that deal. He wants it to be done, Spurs want it to be done, Middlesbrough want to make the sale and they just want the appropriate fee for him. I do still think that one will happen.”

Going to happen

Everything seems to be pointing towards Spence joining Spurs, and the fact that Tottenham aren’t worried about a hijack indicates that it may just be a matter of time before the defender arrives in north London.

The likes of Bayern Munich, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal have all been linked with Spence, but even with some of the biggest teams in England and Europe on his tail, Tottenham aren’t panicked about any potential gazumping.

Of course, Tottenham would like Spence through the door sooner rather than later, but, as ever, the most important thing is that he eventually signs for the club.
