The former Magpies hero says the club’s fans need to be rewarded.

Newcastle United hero Les Ferdinand has told Chronicle Live that the club’s supporters deserve to see the side win promotion back to the Premier League this season.
The Magpies were relegated for a second time in eight seasons last term after a thoroughly miserable campaign on and off the field.
However, they launched a brief revival under Rafa Benitez in the final weeks, and this season they are amongst the leading contenders for promotion, currently sitting in third place with seven wins from 11 games.

That start to the season has blown away any negativity that lingered from last season, and supporters appear to once again be fully behind the club, the manager, and the players.
And Ferdinand believes that the unwavering support from the St. James’ Park faithful needs to be rewarded with promotion this season, if there is any justice.
The former striker told Chronicle Live: “It doesn’t always go as smoothly as people expect it to. Just because you spend all this money and make these signings, it doesn’t mean you’re going to definitely go up. As great and talented as the team is, this division is a dogfight every week and they have to keep that going.

“Without a shadow of a doubt it’s important for this city that this football club is doing well. Newcastle is a terrific place in terms of football and when you’ve been part of it you realise how special it is.
“You want them to be back in the Premier League, you want them to be challenging for trophies and you just want the club to win something for those supporters because they deserve it.”
The Magpies would certainly be many people’s bet for automatic promotion based on the form they have shown so far this season.
They will be hoping to strengthen their bid with victory over Brentford when Championship action returns on Saturday.
