The former Spurs striker believes the playmaker has all the assets to be a future star.
Tottenham’s Marcus Edwards in action against Alex Sandro of Juventus
Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Marcus Edwards has the potential to go all the way, according to one former Tottenham player in Les Ferdinand, as he told Ham&High this afternoon.
Spurs have built a fine reputation recently for bringing through good young talent, with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier all proving top young talents – whilst Harry Winks, Joshua Onomah and Tom Carroll also have a future at the club.
Another name to add to this list is the 17-year-old England youth talent Edwards.
His playing style has been compared to none other than the great Lionel Messi and he recently made his Tottenham first-team debut in the EFL Cup against Gillingham.
England’s Marcus Edwards
Ferdinand, who spent six years with Spurs as a player and also coached at White Hart Lane after retirement, told Ham&High today that Edwards has the potential to be a massive star:
“I obviously worked with and saw a lot of youngsters while I was at Tottenham, and Marcus Edwards is right up there.
“It’s no surprise to me to see Mauricio Pochettino now putting him in and among his first-team squad.
“I genuinely think this kid is the next big thing … He’s got pace, power and skill – he has it all. I think he has the capability to be a huge player for Tottenham in the years to come and maybe England too – he’s certainly got the potential.”
Spurs fans are of course very excited about the talent Edwards clearly possesses – although the Messi tags may be slightly premature for the time being.
Ferdinand also appears in no doubt that the teenager has what it takes to make the grade.
Here’s hoping Spurs can nurture his talent into something incredible.
