Vincent Janssen has only scored two goals for Tottenham Hotspur to date.
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Les Ferdinand has backed Vincent Janssen to come good at White Hart Lane on TalkSPORT.
Janssen was brought to Spurs from AZ Alkmaar last summer, but he has endured a difficult start to life with the North London club.
The Dutch striker is yet to score for Spurs in open play, with both his goals coming from the penalty spot in the EFL Cup.
Janssen has scored against Gillingham and Liverpool during his Tottenham career to date, and question marks have arisen over whether he has the predator’s instinct required to make an impact for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
However, Ferdinand believes he has seen enough in Janssen to suggest he has the ability to live up to his £22 million price-tag (TalkSPORT), if Spurs fans are patient with the forward.
“For most strikers coming into the Premier League, it takes a period of time to settle in,” Ferdinand said.
“He has been thrust in at the deep end and it’s great for him because he does need those games, but sometimes when you have got people around you scoring goals as well it takes the pressure off.
“Harry did that so well last year so the focus is on Janssen to score but I have seen him play in the past, I know he is a top player and hopefully he will come to fruition at the football club.”
Janssen has generally been used as a substitute for Spurs so far, even with Harry Kane sidelined through injury.
The 22-year-old striker looks likely to be on the bench again at the weekend, when Spurs take on Leicester City at White Hart Lane.
