Leeds United have been linked with QPR ace Massimo Luongo.

Queens Park Rangers director of football Les Ferdinand has told The World Game that midfielder Massimo Luongo may be able to kick on if he leaves Loftus Road.

The R’s have seen Luongo star since his 2015 move from Swindon Town, with Ferdinand swooping to land him having seen him come through the Tottenham Hotspur ranks.

Luongo, 26, has now racked up almost 150 appearances for the R’s, becoming a fan favourite at Loftus Road not just for his quality on the ball, but also his tenacious streak in the tackle.

Sadly for QPR, they may have seen the last of the Australian international in the famous blue and white hoops, as he’s one of a number of players who may leave to boost the QPR finances.

Just days ago, London Football News reported that Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are particularly keen on signing Luongo, who has just one year left on his contract.

Now, Ferdinand has admitted that Luongo may well be better off developing away from QPR, believing that he can kick on elsewhere, whilst noting that everyone at the club is for sale and only a poor goalscoring record is keeping Luongo from reaching the top of the game.

“He’s relatively young and has the opportunity to push on,” said Ferdinand. “He has a year left with us but if he does go this summer he might be able to kick on a little bit more.”

“All our players are up for sale. There has been a bit of interest for Mass. We are a club that if the right offer comes in for one of our players – especially with the Financial Fair Play situation – we have to look at everything. It’s not just Mass specifically – it’s all the individuals at the football club.”

“Mass is one of those who back in our Tottenham days I thought he was going to push on. For me, if he added goals to his game he would be playing in the Premier League right now. It’s the one part of his game which he hasn’t (to this point) been able to improve on. It’s because of that he’s probably remained in the Championship and not gone (as yet) to where he thought he might be heading,” he added.

Ferdinand’s comments are interesting given that he’s essentially touting his own midfielder out to other clubs, and it may well be the encouragement Leeds are looking for to make a move.

QPR may well want to cash in before Luongo can leave for free, and by putting his name out there in this fashion, clubs will have surely taken notice of his availability.

With question marks over the futures of Samu Saiz and Adam Forshaw, an all-round midfielder with Championship experience like Luongo could be invaluable to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
